PAYcations are better than Vacations

As you may have heard, I’m getting ready to go on an epic vacation for the rest of the month. (I’m not worried about the reveal since someone is living in our house at all times!)

So it seems a fitting time to share my recent feature story published in Writers Weekly—the highest-circulation freelance writing ezine in the world.

The article is all about the joys of travel writing. One thing I enjoy almost as much as writing fiction is writing creative nonfiction about my travels.

“Explore the world, then explore it again in your writing. Find the personal stories in your travel experiences. Your readers will thank you—and read you—for it.”

You can bet I’ll be gathering some experiences to write about as I spend most of the month in Budapest, Hungary (just a few minutes’ walk from the iconic Hungarian Parliament Building) with side trips to Eger, Tokaj, Pecs, and Sopron in Hungary, Zagreb and Rijeka in Croatia, Lake Bled and Ljubljana in Slovenia, Vienna in Austria, and Bratislava in Slovakia.

Are You Big Enough?

Are you big enough for your own website?

That’s a question a lot of authors ask themselves, and one that I considered. It’s the subject of my latest feature article at Writers Weekly, the world’s highest-circulation freelance writers subscription ezine.

I used to keep individual websites for each book. Then, my agent convinced me that if you have published works to share, you’re big enough for your own author’s website.

So now, I keep it all under one roof at www.EricDGoodman.com.

Where is your online presence?

I Explain Why I Blog in Writers Weekly

People blog for many different reasons. I began blogging in June of 2005, not quite sure what I was doing. I’d always identified myself as a writer, and I specifically wanted to bring some attention to fiction.

As I posted writing advice from authors I’d met at book events, like John Irving, Tom Wolf, E.L. Doctorow, Tim O’Brien, Alice McDermott, Elmore Leonard, Alexander McCall Smith, Salmon Rushdie and the likes, I came to understand my ultimate purpose as a blogger. I was blogging to sell books—to get people interested in reading. IN part, so perhaps one day my readers would read my own book. But primarily because I wanted to get readers reading books.

I write all about my evolution as a blogger in Writers Weekly, the highest circulation freelance writing ezine in the world. You can read the feature article here.

If you’re a blogger, why do you blog? If not, why do you read blogs?

Selling Books Abroad in Writers Weekly

Recently, Writers Weekly, the highest-circulation freelance writing ezine in the world, published my story, “Selling Books Abroad,” as their weekly Featured Story.

In the article, I share my experience of doing a book event for Tracks in Madrid, Spain. Here’s a taste of the books and beer coverage:

“We were planning a vacation to (and travel story on) Spain anyway. Adding a book event to the visit was a great way of mixing business with pleasure - and it proved to be an effective way to sell books and create some buzz with a new readership.”

Writing from Spain

I don’t know any Spanish, but I know a little about Spain. Four articles about my visit to Spain earlier this year have been accepted by three different publications.

Writers Weekly will publish my success story, “Selling Books Abroad,” about my sold-out book event in Madrid.

Real Travel Adventures Magazine will publish two armchair travel stories about my time in Spain: “Bouncing About Barcelona” and “Meandering About Madrid.”

Finally, inTravel Magazine will publish one longer story about my travels in Spain: “Spanish Holiday.”
