Yona Zeldis McDonough on Womb: Engagingly Original

Acclaimed author Yona Zeldis McDonough recently read an advance reading copy of Womb: a novel in utero. Here’s what she had to say.

“Wild, wacky and engagingly original, Womb will take you on a journey whose destination is nothing short of Life—with a capital L.”

--Yona Zeldis McDonough,
author of The House On Primrose Pond

Medical Minute: An Important Message from Dr. Hutchens

You won't want to miss this important message from Dr. Hutchens. Your good health (or at a good laugh) may depend on it.

"As an OB/GYN and pre-natal psychologist, I've seen a lot of wombs in my life," he claims. But he's never seen one as amazing as the one he describes in this video.

Whether you have a womb of your own or not, Dr. Hutchens has a prescription for you!

Remembering Steinbeck in JMWW

JMWW, the popular literary journal, published my essay, "Remembering Thomas Steinbeck." In it, I pay tribute to my mentor and friend, who was an author, and son of Nobel Laureate John Steinbeck.

"Thom grew up in the shadow of the literary great—under the care of the person I regard as my all-time favorite author: John Steinbeck.

But Thom made clear that he didn’t feel he was in the shadows. As he described it, his father put Thom on his shoulders and gave him all the light he wanted.

Read "Remembering Steinbeck" in JMWW.

Enoch Pratt Free Library Hosts Womb Launch

The Enoch Pratt Free Library is hosting the official launch of Womb: a novel in utero. The release reading is part of the Enoch Pratt’s Writers LIVE series supported in part by the Miss Howard Hubbard Adult Programming Fund.

Past Writers LIVE authors have included Terry McMillan, Colson Whitehead, Roxane Gay, and Ron Tanner.

Writers LIVE: Eric D. Goodman, Womb: a novel in utero takes place on Tuesday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Early readers and reviewers of Womb have called the book “engagingly original,” “strange and wonderful,” “amazing,” “a cocktail of all human emotion,” “brave,” “full of wisdom and goodwill,” and say that it “has a lot to say” and is “written with sophistication and poetry.”

Reviews have compared Womb to Ian McEwan’s Nutshell and Emma Donoghue’s Room, and said, “Goodman rises to the challenge posed by the foetus’ limited perspective, relating a story of betrayal and domestic turmoil through the filter of the uterine wall.”

Womb: a novel in utero will be officially released on Tuesday, March 21 and can be found in bookstores in person and online. Books will be available for buying and signing at the library event on March 28.

TBT: Weird Womb Photo Shoot

Standard author photos can be boring. Sometimes it's fun to do something creative when it comes to the author pics. For Tracks: A Novel in Stories, we had a photo shoot at Baltimore's Penn Station, taking images with trains and tracks behind me.

For Womb: a novel in utero, we went a little deeper.

This may be about as far back as Throwback Thursday can get.

Photographs below are courtesy of my wife, Nataliya. Welcome to my womb.
