Steve Berry Lends a Hand to Poe House

International Bestseller Steve Berry is stopping by the B&O Railroad museum this week to help out Baltimore’s Poe House.

I met Steve Berry about ten years ago when he had just published his second book. Since his first novel was published in 2003, he’s had about 17 bestselling thrillers published. He keeps as busy as his globetrotting characters.

History is at the heart of his thrillers and adventures, and his “History Matters” foundation strives to save and preserve endangered historic buildings.

Steve will participate in a reception and give a talk at the B&O Museum on May 22 with proceeds going to Poe Baltimore and the Edgar Allan Poe House. Note that the events are being hosted at the B&O Museum at 901 West Pratt Street and not at the Poe House.

The Delirium of Poe Benefits Poe House

Here’s a Halloween treat for fans of Poe. The Bedlam Ensemble, a nonprofit theatre company based in New York, NY, has staged "The Delirium of Edgar Allan Poe" and profits from ticket sales will be donated to the Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum in Baltimore.

Without help, the Poe House and Museum may close as early as June of 2012. This play is the latest in a series of charity events to save the Poe House

Kimberly Freeman, Director of the Bedlam Ensemble, said this:

“The Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum should not be allowed to close. Its not right for such a well respected literary icon to have part of his history destroyed/closed. Its part of the Poe legacy which in turn is part of American history and should be treated with the respect it deserves.”

Poe House Benefit—Forevermore

If you’re a fan of Edgar Allan Poe or are connected to Baltimore, you probably know that the Poe House & Museum in Baltimore is in danger of becoming … nevermore. Lack of funding may force the Poe House to close its doors.

MICA-trained artist Gaia and Baltimore Heritage want to make sure that doesn’t happen—as do Poe enthusiasts everywhere. So they’ve rap-tap-tapped together a benefit. Here are the details.

Gaia has generously donated a numbered special edition of his print, The Raven (Forevermore) for a sale to benefit Baltimore’s Poe House & Museum so that they may continue to keep their doors open. There will be a Preview & Print Sale gallery event at Urbanite@Case[werks] and hosted by Baltimore Heritage on the eve of Artscape 2011, July 14th from 6 to 8 pm. To attend the Preview, please RSVP. An Artist’s Reception will follow from 8-10 pm to celebrate the gift with an installation by the artist and is open to all.

John Astin (the actor who played Gomez in The Addams Family and a professor at Johns Hopkins) will host the evening and introduce the artist Gaia. The evening will include a performance of The Raven by Tony Tsendeas.
